Partnership between Church of England and the Lutheran Church of Northern Germany
Known as the Nordkirche, the Lutheran Church in North Germany is fortunate to have not just one diocesan link with the Church of England, but three. When the Nordkirche was formed in 2012, each of its constituent members brought with them their pre-existing partnerships with the Church of England:
- The people of Lübeck and Hamburg had established a close relationship with their partners in Durham,
- the Church in Schleswig had built connections with the people of Ely,
- and the Church family in Mecklenburg had created strong bonds with their friends in Lichfield Diocese.
In light of the growing divisions and fractures across Europe and the world, this historic threefold link offers a unique opportunity for our Church to be a community of hope, a network in which people with different traditions and stories come together in the name of Jesus Christ. Together, we seek to:
- learn more about God’s love through one another;
- encourage each other in our faith;
- play our part in building God’s kingdom of peace and justice, by providing a powerful witness against suspicion, fear and hatred.
