Klimaschutz hat im zurückliegenden Wahlkampf keine große Rolle mehr gespielt. Das lässt wenig Dynamik in Sachen Klima- und Umweltschutz für die nächste Legislatur erhoffen, obgleich die Zeit drängt. Die Folgen der Klimakrise werden nicht nur hierzulande immer spürbarer, sondern besonders existentiell auch in den pazifischen Inselstaaten. Ihre Stimmen finden hierzulande selten Gehör.
Der Theologe Dr. Jione Havea nimmt uns hinein in den pazifischen Kontext. Er berichtet über die dramatischen Folgen des Klimawandels im Pazifik und führt in seinen Ansatz einer Öko-Theologie ein, die sich aus biblischer Reflexion und Rückgriff auf indigene Quellen der pazifischen Völker speist. Welche Antworten und Impulse lassen sich daraus gewinnen für einen alternativen Umgang mit der Schöpfung und unseren natürlichen Lebensgrundlagen?
Dabei fokussiert er auf die indigenen pazifischen Traditionen als Schlüssel für eine Re-Lektüre der biblischen Texte. Die Narrative der Pazifischen Völker und ihr traditionelles Wissen bilden den Hintergrund für sein theologischen Denken.
Referent:
Dr. Jione Havea ist Pastor der Methodistischen Kirche in Tonga. In seiner akademischen Arbeit ist er Lehrbeauftragter in Bibel- und Kulturwissenschaften an der Theologischen Fakultät der Charles-Sturt-University sowie in Religions- und Indigenen Wissenschaften an der Divinity-University in Australien. Jione Havea lehrt und betreut Studierende am United Theological College in Sydney unter dem Dach der School of Theology der der Charles-Sturt-University.
Die Veranstaltung wird auf Englisch gehalten.
Nur für Online-Teilnehmende wird eine deutsche Simultanübersetzung angeboten.

Climate protection no longer played a major role in the last federal election campaign. This leaves little hope for a strong dynamic in terms of climate and environmental protection for the next legislative period, although time is running out. The consequences of the climate crisis are not only becoming increasingly visible here, but also particularly existentially for the peoples in the Pacific island states. Yet their voices are rarely heard here.
Jione Havea takes us into the Pacific context. He reports on the dramatic consequences of climate change in the Pacific and introduces his approach to eco-theology, which is based on biblical reflection and recourse to indigenous sources and traditions of the Pacific Peoples. What answers and impulses can be gained from this for an alternative approach to dealing with creation and our natural resources?
The focus of the presentation is on indigenous Pacific traditions as a key to re-reading and interpreting biblical texts. The narratives of Pacific Islanders and their traditional knowledge form the background for his theological reflections.
Speaker:
Jione Havea is a pastor of the Methodist Church in Tonga. In his academic work, Jione is Adjunct Professor in biblical and cultural studies with the School of Theology, Charles Sturt University, and in religious and indigenous studies with the University of Divinity – both universities are in Australia. Jione Havea teaches and supervises through United Theological College (Sydney, within the School of Theology, Charles Sturt University) and Pilgrim Theological College (Melbourne, with the University of Divinity).
